This section contains a number of separate subpages. They cover a lot of Spurgeons from Essex and East Anglia. A more complete history of Spurgeons has been done by someone and this can be found on the Internet. My interest stems from the name being on my maternal side. Therefore all my lists are ‘local’ pertaining to Halstead and extending a little over Essex. There are name variations to sort out such as Spurgen, Spurgon and possibly Spurge which I would avoid. The Halstead Spurgeons can be traced to the 1500’s.
The objective is to follow the Spurgeon families of my birthplace, Halstead in Essex. I can trace my line back to the early 1600’s. To make the family tree I am using Brother’s Keeper by John Steed. This can be downloaded free from his website.
